“Hugging Dogs” Photo Helps Two Pups Escape Euthanization And Find A Home

On Monday morning, Kala and Keira, two dogs at Atlanta-based Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, were scheduled to be euthanized. Despite being loving and well-trained dogs, the pair couldn’t seem to get adopted.

With the dogs’ time running out, volunteers at the animal rescue sent out one final, desperate plea to save these dogs.

The group posted a photo of Kala and Keira on Facebook on Monday. It shows the two embracing, in what could be their last moments together. Below the photo was a message written from the perspective of one of the dogs.

“I’m Kala. This is Keira. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline,” the text read.

“If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I’ll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won’t come back and I’ll cry. They’ll come for me next, and I won’t be as brave.”

Less than two hours after the photo was posted on Facebook, a savior stepped up to save the buddies. The shelter posted an update, showing the dogs showering their new owner with tons of wet kisses!

“There are no words to tell you how happy we are that these two best friends are safe and together!” the shelter volunteers wrote.
