Wild Baby Fox Finds Her Way Into a Woman’s Yard, And Decides It’s Hers Now

Emma Thompson was working in her office at the end of July when she suddenly felt that she wasn’t alone. The kitchen door was open to allow some fresh air in.

In the corner of her eye, Thompson saw something orange and moving right by her leg—at the same time, she saw me and raced out the door.

Thompson met Foxy for the first time that day.

Foxy soon became a regular visitor to Thompson’s yard, and she began to piece together her enigmatic past. In spite of the fact that the baby fox was born in a neighbor’s yard, the latter’s petulant neighbor destroyed the fox’s den. The baby fox had nowhere else to go, so she wandered into Thompson’s yard in search of a new home. Foxy stayed because Thompson seemed like a nice enough guy, and the two now chat virtually every day.

Foxy quickly adjusted to her new surroundings and now acts as if she’s always been there. In addition to snoozing on the backyard sofa and socializing with the cats, she has been known to break into the house and steal Thompson’s slippers. Foxy started bringing her sister along as soon as she realized it was safe, and the two now treat Thompson’s yard as their personal playground.

Thompson fixed the broken cat door to make it more difficult for the pair to get into the house, which Foxy was not pleased about.

It was not a big deal for Thompson to have her come in when she knew where she was, but he didn’t want her running around the apartment at night and stealing his belongings. I decided to swap it out. When she couldn’t get the flap to open no matter how hard she tried, she was upset.

To keep Foxy and her sister from becoming reliant on humans, Thompson does her best to keep a distance from them. Foxy, on the other hand, may have other ideas.

Foxy has curled her tail around my legs and sniffed me numerous times, but I’ve never petted her. It looked like one of the cats, so I assumed it was.” I want to make it clear that I am aware of the importance of keeping an eye out for humans. If I move too quickly or raise my voice, they’ll run away.”

Foxy and her younger sister are only a few months old. They just wanted a safe place to grow up and be themselves, and Thompson is overjoyed that they chose her yard as their home.

COVID has allowed Thompson to work from home, he explains. “My favorite pastime is photographing and filming them in my garden.”
