You’ve probably seen at least one albino animal in your lifetimes, while at the zoo. Albino animals are incredibly rare, but they’re also gorgeous creatures.
Here’s one incredible albino that you will probably never see. Moose are the largest members of the deer family. They can grow to be seven feet tall and can weigh more than 1,500 pounds!
This is an extremely rare creature. Only 1 in 100,000 moose are born albino. That’s .001%! There is such a thing as a “white moose” but that animal is not a true albino.
The easiest way to tell is by looking at the eyes. Albino animals don’t have colored eyes because they lack the ability to create colored pigments. The albino moose is rarely seen or photographed because it’s a trait that occurs so infrequently, but here are some amazing pictures of these unusual animals.
What’s especially amazing is that someone managed to see two of these animals right next to each other. That’s simply unbelievable! But right there is the photographic evidence.
The albino moose might be rare, but it’s still the target of North American hunters, even more so because of its rarity.
Places like Newfoundland and Idaho are now passing laws that make it illegal to hunt these animals, which is a great move towards preserving some of nature’s incredible beauty.
