Sadly, many older dogs are overlooked by society. Be it their advanced age or medical condition, it can be a problem. It’s not uncommon for dogs to be brought to shelters simply because they’re too old for their owners to handle. Sometimes the issue is money and the dog’s medical expenses are just at the bottom of their priority list.
Whatever the reason, senior dogs have an incredibly hard time finding a new home. One woman is doing her very best to prevent these elderly pets from giving up!
In 2006, Sher Polvinale and her late husband, Joe, launched a senior pet sanctuary out of their Gaithersburg, MD home. At “House With A Heart”, the residents both canine and feline, who would have been homeless and/or euthanized are given a loving forever home.
These fortunate animals are able to live out the rest of their lives in a pleasant and supportive environment. This is not a temporary foster home placement, it’s a permanent home operated by an incredible woman who has devoted herself to round-the-clock care of these pets.
About two-dozen dogs now spend their twilight years at House With A Heart. And Sher does not do this alone! She’s helped by a team of compassionate volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty for her four-legged residents.
There is nothing that the don’t do, from washing and feeding to playing and pampering, not a single expense is spared.
Sher never leaves her house! She spends all of her time at home looking after the animals.
