Senior Shelter Cat Can’t Fall Asleep Unless His Human Holds His Paw

Jamie is a 13-year-old Burmese cat who ended up at the RSPCA Australia after his owner moved into a nursing home. Jamie arrived very ill; he had cat flu, bad teeth and kidney problems. The shelter gave Jamie the medical care he needed, but they were worried he would not get adopted because of his age.

Sarah Dempsey came to the shelter looking for a cat that would keep her company. “When I first met [Jamie], he was asleep, but woke up as I bent down to look at him,” Dempsey said. “He clearly wanted some pats… I knew he’d rescue me from feeling alone, and I’d do the same for him.”

Meet Jamie, the adopted cat.  He will not go to sleep until his new mom holds his paw.

The 13-year-old Burmese cat came to the shelter after his owner moved into a nursing home.

After Sarah adopted him, she said “He won’t leave my side… He is extremely affectionate”

They sleep together holding hands.

“If I let go [of his paw] he wakes up, meows, and claws my hand back to him… I think we’ve bonded already.”
