Maxine Baird is the founder of A New Hope animal sanctuary in Georgia, recently learned about an unusual raccoon that was in need of a home. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources(DNR) reported that the raccoon was being kept in terrible conditions. Raccoons may harbor a dangerous disease and can be pretty feisty.
The raccoon had been neglected and locked away in a tiny cage. She was covered in feces and urine.
The DNR warned Baird before she adopted the raccoon that she was aggressive and may not ever get used to being around humans. She was no ordinary raccoon, she was an albino raccoon with a bright pink nose.
Baird agreed to take her in. She sat close to the raccoon’s enclosure and watched her.
That’s when the raccoon came up to her and put her tiny hands through the bars. Baird says that she has a good connection with the albino raccoon.
Baird says she has become the sweetest raccoon she has ever met and she has raised about 200 raccoons!
The raccoon, named Isis, has been healing at the sanctuary, and ‘aggressive’ is the last word anyone would use to describe her!
Isis has found new friends but because she spent too much time in a cage, she will never be able to return to the wild.
She has a good home at A New Hope though!
