Ann Bryant, a wildlife rehabilitator and also, founder of the BEAR League in Lake Tahoe, California, rescued this porcupine.
Maude is the daughter of Mia, who sadly has passed away. Mia was a porcupine that had neurological issues and Bryant rescued her about three years ago.
When Bryant first rescued her, she didn’t know that Mia was pregnant, and to her surprise, one night when she went to check on Mia in her enclosure, she found that the porcupine had given birth to baby Maude.
Bryant took care of little Maude after Mia passed away, and the baby porcupine became very attached to not just Bryant, but also to Bryant’s two dogs: Bitsy and Mosey.
“So she is under permanent care and lives here…[Maude] goes with me to a lot of places. I think she thinks she’s a dog,” she said.
When Bryant’s third dog, Mikey, passed away last August, she finally decided it was time to bring a new pup into the family – completely confident in Maude’s ability to be an absolutely awesome big sister!
