An unusual video is going viral showing a mama rat grabbing her human’s finger and dragging her to show off her baby!
Rats are highly social animals that communicate with each other using high-frequency sounds that we cannot hear. They enjoy playing together, cuddling, and wrestling. Jaak Panksepp, a neuroscientist at Bowling Green State University, said that when playing or being tickled, rats make chirping sounds that are very similar to human laughter. “[Y]oung rats have a marvelous sense of fun,” says the professor.
If a rat bonds with their human companions, it is for life. Just like humans, if they do not have companionship, rats get lonely, anxious, stressed, and depressed.
The large rat we see in this video is a Giant Pouched rat. These types of rats are used in Africa to sniff out landmines.
