She Was Locked In A Basement For Over Nine Years Before Being Rescued

When a Good Samaritan reported that she had seen a dog and her son in the basement of a home looking incredibly thin, the Humane CNY Shelter stepped in.

There was no food or water, and without intervention, the animals were likely going to die.

Director Christine McNeely made a call to the Syracuse Police Department to investigate the premises.

When they arrived, they found Jada and Sonny as the Samaritan had described, living in terrible conditions.

That is when they were confiscated and the owners were charged with animal cruelty.

Both admitted to the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY for treatment. Jada started to gain more and more weight and was showing affection to those taking care of her.

The poor girl was covered in lumps that raised some concerns. After they were biopsied, it was discovered that Jada had cancer that had spread to her lungs.

The hopes of Jada being adopted by a loving family was not realistic, and the staff had to switch gears on her treatment.

They focused on giving Jada all the things that any normal dog should experience in their lifetime and created a bucket list for her to complete.

They took her for a ride on a fire truck,  eat a wonderful bowl of ice cream, and even appearing on television.

She still has a lot left to cross off her list, but she’ll definitely have fun completing it all.
