Maroesia was struck by a car and left on the side of the road for dead. In February of 2015 she was found on the road, with many wounds, a broken shoulder and two horribly shattered front legs. The poor little baby was only 2 weeks old.
“She was hit by a car on the streets, and they left her for dead, bleeding on the street,” said Marina Melis, founder of Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire.
She was hit by a car on the streets, and they left her for dead, bleeding on the street,” said Marina Melis, founder of Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire.
Melis, has been rescuing donkeys for the past 23 years on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire. She decided to name the baby donkey Maroesia, after her own mother, and took her into the sanctuary that she runs there.
Very slowly, Maroesia began to recover. She was fitted with leg splints which would help her to walk with her new friends, the other little rescue donkeys at the sanctuary.
Melis was determined that not only would they help the donkey, left for dead, to survive, but she would make certain that the little donkey lived a happy life.
Finally she has the life that she always deserved and she shows her gratitude in the most wonderful way, A GREAT BIG HUG!!!
